Can Bodybuilding Supplements Build
Muscle?
When it comes to muscle building supplements, the number one question that I'm usually
asked is...do bodybuilding supplements build muscle? While I do admit that using the right bodybuilding supplements
at the right times can have an impact on the amount of muscle mass you gain, the truth of the matter is that in
order for supplements to even have an impact on your physique, you need to be applying the muscle building basics
on a consistent basis.
Bodybuilding Supplements Will
Not Help You Build Muscle If You Don't Have A Solid Foundation..
By solid muscle building foundation I mean a well thought out bodybuilding
nutrition strategy, a solid weight training routine and an
effective rest and recovery plan. Without all of these elements firmly in place, you will not gain any muscle
mass.

Lets get real here, muscle mass does not jump up and begin to build itself. Building muscle is a very
inefficient process for your body. It is simply not natural for your body to add muscle. Instead of adding muscle
weight, your body would just as soon pack on massive energy reserves (body fat).
The point of the matter here is that there isn't anything (legal at least) on the face of the planet that can
magically cause you to build muscle mass without putting in the hard work. The process of building muscle is a step
by step method of carefully planning and implementing your carefully crafted muscle building plan on a consistent
basis.
Bodybuilding supplements build muscle only when all of the critical muscle building elements are in place. No
muscle building supplement can overcome the negative muscle building environment created when even one of the
foundational muscle gain principles is neglected.
Bodybuilding Supplement Build Muscle By Supporting An Already
Solid Nutrition Plan...
This is the area where I believe that bodybuilding supplements can actually help you build more muscle mass than
simply going it alone. My personal training experience tells me that it is a major challenge to eat enough high
quality muscle building nutrients throughout the day to support muscle growth. Even though I absolutely love to
eat, throw a plain chicken breast in front of my face 2 or 3 times a day and I guarantee I'll have a difficult time
choking it down.
If this is also your experience, you may benefit from adding a high quality protein powder supplement to your diet. No, I'm not recommending giving up
on high quality whole food sources of muscle building nutrients. But I do believe that it's a good idea to
supplement your 5 - 6 whole food meals each day with a scoop or two of whey protein powder.
While it is never a good idea to ingest copious amounts of chemicals and food additives, there are whey protein
powders on the market these days that do not have a high amount of these nasty additives. A few natural choices of
high quality muscle building whey protein that come to mind are...
My personal favorite whey protein isolate supplement is AST's VP2. Not only does it mix easily, but it tastes great making it an easy way to add high
quality muscle building protein to your diet.
When I was struggling to build muscle mass, I added VP2 to my post workout nutrition strategy but following this
simple yet effective template.
Beefed Up Post Workout Nutrition Plan - Incorporating AST's
VP2 Whey Protein Isolate
Post workout meal consumed within 20 minutes of completing weight training workout:
- 1 scoop VP2 Mixed With Water
- 1 piece of fruit
- 2 cups of oatmeal
- 2 glasses of water
- 1 turkey breast sandwich
If you need to beef up your muscle building nutrition plan, adding a few scoops of fast acting whey protein isolate to your post workout meal can certainly help to do the trick. After
I implemented this strategy to my post workout meal...
- My Strength Increased!
- My Recovery Time Seemed To Shorten Up A Bit Between Workouts!
- I Gained 5 lbs of Muscle Mass In Under A Month!
So to answer the question - Can Bodybuilding Supplements Build Muscle Mass -
No They Can't. But they can help to beef up an already solid bodybuilding nutrition plan. Especially when
implemented into a fast acting post workout recovery meal.
If you're struggling to build muscle mass even after incorporating the proven muscle building basics, you may
benefit from some supplemental whey protein isolate.
