Is Whey Protein The Real Deal?

Whey Protein

When it comes to bodybuilding supplements that actually work, whey protein has to be high on the list.  Sure there are thousands of supplements that are flashier and marketed more aggressively, but the bottom line is that you must adhere to the basics of bodybuilding if you want to build muscle mass. There is no getting around it.

Things like making sure to eat enough muscle building protein at the right times, getting enough rest between workouts and training with the appropriate level of intensity are all important for those of us who want to build muscle mass. Once you have the fundamentals down, you may want to think about incorporating a few of the proven muscle building supplements into your plan to help push you over the edge towards sustained muscle growth.

In my opinion, whey protein’s are some of the best muscle building supplements  – hands down! They allow you to consume more muscle building protein in an easily digestible and easy to consume manner.  Instead of having to force-feed yourself 12 chicken breasts a day, you can supplement your diet with a high quality whey protein powder and still build muscle mass – without having to choke down an abundance of whole food protein sources.

How I Use Whey Protein To Build More Muscle

I use whey protein isolate and concentrate to help get more muscle building protein into my daily diet without having to force-feed myself constantly.  I will typically drink 1 shake of a high quality whey protein concentrate / calcium casenate / whey protein isolate blend first thing in the morning in order to get my day started off right.  I like to drink a why protein shake for breakfast because I typically don’t have time to sit down and eat a traditional muscle building meal.

The only other time I swear by whey protein supplements, is immediately after I finish my weight training workouts.  I like to use a high quality whey protein isolate in order to get as much protein into my body as quickly as possible after each workout. I have an especially hard time making myself eat after training (even though I know that this is a critical time to get my protein!), but I have no problem drinking down a shake. My favorite post workout whey protein is VP2 by AST.  I love the way it tastes and the fact that it mixes instantly and easily!

While I don’t go overboard slamming down tons of servings each day, I do believe that using whey protein on a regular basis will help you build more muscle mass than you otherwise would.
