High Quality Whey Protein The
Ultimate Muscle Gain Supplement?

The Ultimate Muscle Gain Supplement

It's true whey protein is the best muscle gain supplement on the market...no doubt about it! Sure this is only my humble opinion, but I whole heartedly believe that a high quality whey protein powder is one of the best muscle gain supplements available today.

Sure marketer's are ramming some of the more marketable muscle gain supplements down your throat, but that doesn't make them any more effective at helping you actually build any muscle mass!

The Ultimate Muscle Gain Supplement...

When it comes to muscle gain supplements, there are tons of sexy ones to choose from. The problem with many of these supplements is not that they don't offer any value to the muscle building process, but they are often overpriced and over hyped to say the least!

When it comes to building muscle mass there are only a handful of hard and fast principles that actually lead to any muscle gain results. I'm sure you've heard them all before, but here they are again just incase you weren't listening...

1.) Stimulate Muscle Growth With An Intense Weight Training Workout

2.) Provide Adequate Nutrition To Fuel This Muscle Growth including...

  • Ample amounts of muscle building protein

  • Lots of muscle hydrating water

  • A good mixture of high quality carbohydrates (unless you're following the "Anabolic" style (high fat/ low carb)diet.

  • A healthy dose of heart healthy fats

3.) Allow for Adequate Rest And Recovery Sessions Between Muscle Building Workouts

But somewhere along the way people began to buy into the false belief that they actually need to have the latest and greatest muscle gain supplement in order to build muscle mass.

This is simply not true!

Trust me when I say that 90 - 95% of all the muscle mass you ever gain is going to come from a combination of these three principles...

  • Eating The Right Muscle Building Nutrients At The Right Times

  • Stimulating Muscle Growth Through Weight Training Workouts

  • Resting and Recovering From your Workouts

This is why I believe whey protein is the best muscle gain supplement on the market today. Instead of filling your body with gobs of unknown substances, a high quality whey protein supplement provides a souped-up version of one of the most critical muscle building nutrients - high quality muscle building protein!

Not only will you be able to consume more of this vital muscle building nutrient, but with whey protein supplements you can even time your protein feedings based on the estimated digestion times.

As a rule of thumb...

Whey protein isolates like AST's VP2 and Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein Gold Standard are fast acting and quickly absorbed into the blood stream. Whey protein isolates are ideal for post workout meals because they quickly go to work supplying your tired and hungry muscles with high quality amino acids.

Whey protein concentrates like Optimum Nutrition's 100% Classic Whey and EAS 100% Whey Protein are great for general everyday use. While whey protein concentrates are not as pure a form of protein as whey protein isolates, they do provide a well balanced amino acid spectrum.

Expect whey protein isolates to be absorbed in a similar fashion as whole food protein sources. If you're looking for a low cost all purpose whey protein supplement that can be taken virtually anytime, whey protein concentrate is the choice.

What Does All The Whey Protein Jargon Actually Mean...

Micro-filtration Whey Protein Concentrate is an example of a name used to describe certain types of whey protein supplements. While I'm sure most of you have seen this type of whey protein mumbo jumbo before, I'd venture to say that most of you have absolutely no idea what it really even means!

Here is the simplest explanation I can come up with...

"Micro-Filtration" - Refers to the manufacturing process used to create the whey protein.

"Whey Protein" - Describes the protein type, in this case good old fashioned muscle building whey protein.

"Concentrate" - Refers to the percentage of actual muscle building protein in the whey protein itself.

Keep in mind -there are only 2 choices when it comes to whey, either...

Concentrate (80% or less protein)

Isolate - (The protein content is 90% or higher)

If you're scratching your head right now trying to figure out why 100% of your whey protein supplement isn't protein, relax. The rest of the formula that is not considered protein is actually ash, moisture, fat, carbs and lactose. These nutrients are found in all whey proteins.

There are only four ways to manufacture whey protein:

Micro/Ultra Filtration (most common) - Using this method the manufacturer uses filters to separate the whey fro the liquid milk. This is the most affordable way to produce decent quality whey protein powder. Becuse of this, products made with the micro/ultra filtration process are high quality at an affordable price.

Cross-Flow Micro filtration (CFM) - CFM is the highest quality whey isolate in the world. Cross-Flow Micro filtration uses ceramic filters to separate the protein from the rest of the nutrients. As alluded to earlier, whey protein isolate manufactured with CFM is the best whey protein in the world!

Ion Exchange Whey - This method uses chemical solvents and electron charges to separate the protein fractions. This process creates a protein powder that has the highest Branched Chain Amino Acid content and percentage of pure protein.

Hydrolyzation - This process uses enzymes to pre-digest the whey protein fractions and convert them into peptides. Whey protein produced by this method is typically contains about 50% hydrolyzed fractions and 50% "whole food" whey protein. This type of protein is ideal for situations where you want a quickly digesting protein source, such as after your intense weight training workouts!

While there isn't a muscle building supplement anywhere in the world that will allow you to pack on muscle mass without putting in the hard work required, whey protein powders allow you to supplement your diet with the muscle building nutrients you need exactly when your body needs them.

With a little thought and planning supplementing with whey protein can go a long way to ensure that your muscles stay in a perpetual state of anabolic bliss!
